How AI Moves the P&L for Electrical Distributors: Lessons From 200+ Live Deployments

Written by WizCommerce | August 13, 2026

Most electrical distributors have heard the same AI pitch: trim cost, reduce headcount. The numbers tell a different story. WizCommerce measured 200-plus live distributor deployments across 2,000-plus reps over 12 months, and the return that showed up was revenue growth, not cost-cutting. For distributors running Epicor Prophet 21, Eclipse or other ERPs, the gains landed exactly where you feel them: bigger orders, more self-serve revenue, and reps back in front of customers.

WizCommerce’s CEO Div Makkar shared this data at the Applied AI for Distributors conference. Every figure comes from live product usage, order data, and rep activity, not survey opinions. Here is what it means for NAED members.

Your best reps spend only 30% of their day selling

Across 2,000-plus reps, WizCommerce measured how the workday actually breaks down: 30% selling, 30% retrieval, and 40% admin. Retrieval is the time spent checking branch stock, looking up contract pricing, and finding substitutes. Admin is keying POs into the ERP, building quotes, and updating the CRM. One inside sales rep at an electrical distributor put it simply: a clean order takes ten minutes, and the rest of the day goes to back-and-forth email and manual entry.

That means 70% of your most expensive talent goes to work that AI can now handle, which is exactly where the revenue opportunity sits.

AI pays off when you point it at revenue, not cost

The data surfaced two levers that move the P&L. Enable your reps with AI and you can capture up to 15% revenue uplift, because the hours they get back go straight into selling. Improve the buyer experience and you can add up to 10% more from an easier buying journey.

WizCommerce groups the capability into three stages, and the revenue compounds as you move along them:

  1. AI Finds gives instant answers on stock, lead times, contract pricing, and substitutes.

  2. AI Thinks delivers substitution and upsell recommendations, reorder predictions, and accounts ranked by buy intent.

  3. AI Does completes the work: order entry straight from a PO email, instant quotes, and automated follow-ups, with no rep in the loop.

Most distributors sit at "AI Finds" today. The distributors seeing the full 15% have pushed through to "AI Does."

A wire and cable distributor lifted average order value 15%

Consider a leading Canadian wire and cable distributor running Epicor P21. When a portable cord went out of stock, its AI surfaced three in-stock alternatives by gauge and rating on the spot, so the rep kept the sale. When a welding cable promo went live, the AI ranked the accounts most likely to buy, from the contractor who ordered 9,000 feet last year to the one who quoted last week. The result: a 15% increase in average order value from AI-driven product recommendations, powered by Kai, the AI sales co-pilot.

Order entry is where Ella, the AI order entry automation tool, earns its keep. Ella reads an emailed PO or attached spreadsheet, matches each line to the right SKU and contract price in your ERP, and drafts a ready-to-confirm order, which is how distributors running Ella have taken back up to four hours per rep, per day.

Your buyers already want to self-serve

67% of B2B buyers prefer to self-serve (McKinsey), and self-serve already drives about a third of B2B revenue across the 200-plus accounts measured. What holds the rest back is friction, not preference. Buyers across electrical and industrial supply tell the same story: they would order online today if the site showed their contract price on 12-gauge THHN, live stock by branch, and a fast way to re-key a 200-line reorder.

Remove that friction with a storefront built for distributors, and the orders that used to route through a rep start to close themselves.

A Dallas MRO distributor on Epicor Eclipse saw the buyer side of the same play. Its B2B storefront lets customers search in-stock valves, conduit, and fittings at their own contract pricing, check branch availability, and reorder in one click. New revenue from the website climbed 15%, with AI acting as the sales rep on every self-serve visit.

What the full platform looks like in practice

The Howard Elliott Collection put the whole stack to work in under a year: WizCRM, Kai, Ella (AI order entry), WizShop, and WizStudio. Howard Elliott grew revenue 15% overall, gave field reps back four hours a day, cut daily order entry from four hours to 15 minutes, and acquired 1,500 new customers.

Different vertical, same pattern any electrical distributor can run: connect your systems, let AI handle retrieval and admin, and put your reps and your buyers where the revenue is.

Where to start

You do not need to rebuild your tech stack to see the first gains. Start where the friction is highest, usually order entry and self-serve search, then expand from there. WizCommerce connects to the ERPs you already run, including Epicor P21 and Eclipse, so the first workflow can go live without ripping anything out.

The question is not whether AI belongs in electrical distribution. It is how quickly you can put it to work. See how WizCommerce works to map the first revenue workflow to your P&L.
